The employees urge Zeldin to realign the agency with its foundational commitment to protect public health and the environment.

Researchers at Université de Lorraine have found that combining photovoltaic power generation with the growth of hyperaccumulating plants on contaminated brownfield land can enhance agromining profitability. The study shows that solar panels protect plants from intense solar radiation, tripling biomass growth and improving solar energy conversion. Additionally, plant evapotranspiration can boost PV module performance by 18%.

Recent record-breaking heat in the Northeast pushed power demand close to record levels, highlighting the potential for battery storage to manage such spikes. ISO New England and PJM Interconnection had to activate fossil fuel peaker plants to meet demand. Battery storage could have stored excess power during the day for use during peak times, a method successfully employed in Texas and California.

Expert urges climate disinformation penalties

Anyone spreading false or misleading information about climate change should face criminal penalties, and lobbying or advertising by the fossil fuel industry -- which captures decision-making spaces and obstructs climate action -- should be banned, UN special rapporteur Elisa Morgera recommends in a report to the UN General Assembly. "The fossil fuel playbook has undermined the protection of all human rights that are negatively impacted by climate change for over six decades," Morgera warns.

Plastic Pollution
Malaysia is implementing strict regulations on plastic waste imports starting Tuesday, effectively banning imports from countries that have not ratified the Basel Convention, including the US. The amended Customs Act requires approval from SIRIM, and imported plastic waste must meet stringent purity standards. The US exported about 35,000 metric tons of plastic waste to Malaysia in 2024, ranking fifth among exporters.

Senate Republicans have introduced a revised tax and budget bill that would end the $7,500 tax credit for new electric vehicle sales and leases as well as the $4,000 credit for used EVs by Sept. 30. The bill also seeks to eliminate fines for failing to meet Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards and includes a tax exemption for interest paid on auto loans for US-made cars.
