The New Jersey Air National Guard 177th Fighter Wing has responded to a spike in flight restriction violations, particularly near Bedminster, N.J., where President Donald Trump frequently visits his golf course, including eight in the last week. Lt. Col. Tom Still, the alert force commander for the 177th, said the offenders usually don't know they are in a zone that is temporarily restricted and "they don't understand why there's an armed military aircraft next to them."

In the Pentagon
The Defense Department has released a memo outlining a new IT consulting contract review process. Unclassified contracts of more than $10 million will require signoff from the Department of Government Efficiency. Required submissions for review will including cost-benefit analyses and justification for outsourcing.

The US Defense Department has stopped sharing satellite weather data with forecasters, citing cybersecurity concerns. The data, crucial for real-time hurricane and sea ice monitoring, has been provided for over 40 years. The House has passed a military construction and veterans spending bill mostly along party lines, with only two Democrats voting in favor. The bill allocates $152 billion in discretionary spending, mainly for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and $18 billion for Pentagon construction projects. Democrats have criticized the bill for moving forward before a full defense budget proposal from President Donald Trump's administration and for restrictions on funding for abortions and gender-affirming care.

Rep. Don Bacon, R-Neb., has expressed concern about the US military's lack of electronic warfare tools, noting that while studies and documentation are plentiful, tangible capabilities are lacking. "We need to have more capability output, and I'm just not seeing enough of it right now," Bacon said. "If you think you're going to be in a very tough fight, electronic warfare is critical to saving lives."

    The Army Reserve has established the Executive Innovation Corps to Drive Tech Transformation, a reserve unit that will name senior technology executives as advisors to "help guide rapid and scalable tech solutions to complex problems." The first members, who were given the rank of lieutenant colonel, are Shyam Sankar, chief technology officer at Palantir Technologies; Andrew Bosworth, chief technology officer at Meta Platforms; Kevin Weil, chief product officer at OpenAI; and Bob McGrew, an adviser at Thinking Machines Lab who used to be chief research officer at OpenAI.

    The Air National Guard will be the featured service component at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, a high visibility show scheduled for July 21-27 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis.     About 100 Florida National Guard troops are to be deployed at the site where the state is constructing a facility for detaining migrants targeted for deportation. Gov. Ron DeSantis said he is also planning to build a second such facility at a National Guard training center known as Camp Blanding near Jacksonville.
