In a nod to the endless rain delays between Games 5 and 6 of the 1975 World Series between the Red Sox and Reds, the meeting of the two teams on Tuesday night was suspended after three innings because of a downpour.
The game will resume at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, with the Sox leading 2-1. The teams will then play as scheduled on Wednesday night at 7:10 p.m.
They will have the lead because for the second straight night, the Red Sox wasted no time in attacking a Reds starting pitcher. Jarren Duran led off with a hustle double to left-center, and Roman Anthony followed suit by drilling a run-scoring double down the left-field line.
Two batters later, Anthony scored when catcher Carlos Narváez, who’d been 1 for 11 with a man on third and fewer than two outs, lined a single to right to put the Sox ahead, 2-0.
