With another week gone, another homestand complete, the Red Sox found themselves Wednesday night in the same place they’ve been: in the mediocre muck of the American League, unable to sustain any sort of momentum, doomed by their own fundamentally unsound play.
They split a pseudo-doubleheader with the Reds, following a 5-3 win in the early game, a resumption of the suspended Tuesday game, with a mess of an 8-4 loss in the nightcap. It was a fitting finish to a Fenway Park stretch in which they went 3-3 against Toronto and Cincinnati.
