A Message from Principal Ritter
Dear Kings Glen Families,
Our library is a great place for students to learn and grow, and we're looking forward to your help in making it even better. Currently, we have approximately $2,054 in outstanding charges for lost books and about $1,700 worth of books missing from students who have left the school. This is nearly $4,000 in lost resources from last year alone. If you come across any books from our library, please return them! Your help is vital to replenish our collection. Rest assured, students will continue to check out books each week. Our new librarian, Ms. Keaney, has exciting and innovative ideas for building our collection into the best elementary library. We look forward to sharing her plans with you soon!
In addition to returning books, there’s another way you can help: through our annual Booster Fun Run. This is the PTA's main fundraising event of the year, and a portion of the funds raised will go directly toward updating materials in our Specials classes, including our library. Thank you for your support in making our library and our school the best they can be.

PTA Booster Fun Run - Friday, September 19th!
We are looking forward to the Fun Run which will take place on Friday, September 19. The schedule for the day is now available! Our school goal is to raise $50,000 to support student enrichment through family events, assemblies, peaceful spaces, updated specials materials and resources that connect learning between school and home. In addition, if 70% of students register at Kings Park school staff will participate in an inflatable race and at Kings Glen there will be an inflatable race between staff and Al E. Gator and the principal will work from the roof for one day! Register for free today at mybooster.com! Every student who registers will receive a prize and ALL students will receive a free t-shirt to wear on event day!
Booster Volunteers Needed! The Booster campaign is a lot of work - we could use your help! We need daily volunteers to help sort and distribute prizes and also Fun Run volunteers. Please sign up here if you can. All volunteers will also need to register as a PTA Volunteer on the FCPS Volunteer site.
Reminder - School Holiday (Rosh Hashanah)
Tuesday, September 23rd - Schools Are Closed
Kiss and Ride - Please Read!
We want to thank you for helping us keep our Kiss and Ride drop-off safe and efficient for all students. As a reminder, Kiss and Ride is a courtesy offered to families and should be used when driving your child(ren) to school and/or picking up your child(ren). We have noticed many families making illegal (and often dangerous) U-Turns on Clydesdale Drive during arrival and dismissal.
To make the process even more efficient each day, we ask that you keep the following reminders in mind:
-
Children should be seated on the right side of the car so they can exit directly towards the school.
-
Adults are to remain in the car—staff and student patrols are there to assist.
-
Have your child ready to exit quickly and safely (backpack, coat, and other items in hand) so that the line can continue moving.
At Kings Glen, our Kiss and Ride is relatively quick! Given our students are older, it is not necessary to have numbers or notify the school that you are using Kiss and Ride. If there is a change in the way your child typically dismisses and you wish for your child(ren) to go to Kiss and Ride, please send an email to KGNotes@fcps.edu so we can notify you child(ren) and the homeroom teacher.
Your partnership helps ensure that all children arrive at school safely and that our mornings run smoothly. Thank you for your cooperation and support!
Welcome to Band and Strings!
We are excited for a new year for students to participate in either Band or Strings!
4th Grade students are eligible to enroll in Strings classes, while 5th and 6th Graders are eligible to enroll in either Band or Strings. Unfortunately, students cannot sign up for more than one instrument. Please reach out to Ms. Sharkey (Strings) or Ms. VanValkenburg (Band) if you need forms or additional information.

Pixel Can Art Food Drive
What: We are collecting 14-16 oz sized cans of vegetables and beans. Cans that “lock together” when stacked are best for the project.
When: Collection of cans starts NOW until September 30th.
Where: Drop of your cans and other dry food goods in the boxes by the front office.
Why: We will donate the food to ECHO in Springfield. Before it is donated, students will create a pixel can art sculpture to be displayed for the school.
