The brand began as a single food truck and has grown to 100 scoop shops and distribution in 12,000 grocery stores, and it recently opened a Flavor Lab at its Brooklyn, N.Y., headquarters, to connect research and development directly with customer feedback. Van Leeuwen has raised $22.6 million in private-equity funding since 2018, enabling it to scale production, open more scoop shops, expand wholesale distribution and push into new markets.

Fage, Chobani rank high among Greek yogurt brands
Fage and Chobani ranked first and second, respectively, in a ranking of healthiest Greek yogurts as evaluated by Board Certified Sports Dietitian Tara Collingwood. Collingwood considered criteria including the amount of protein, added sugars and live and active cultures.

Global cheese market growth accelerates
The global cheese market is projected to reach $178.5 billion by 2035, driven by a compound annual growth rate of 4% to 5%, says a report from Future Market Insights. The expansion of quick-service restaurants in Asia and the Middle East is boosting mozzarella demand, while Europe and North America see value growth through specialty and premium cheeses. The plant-based cheese sector is also growing rapidly, although from a smaller base.

Highly pathogenic avian influenza reported in Neb. dairy herd
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has reported the state's first case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a dairy herd. The strain is similar to one found in California, and the herd has been quarantined. State Veterinarian Roger Dudley says dairy farmers in the state should adhere to biosecurity protocols and contact their veterinarian immediately if cows show signs of illness.

Why Kroger is bringing back paper coupons
Kroger is reintroducing paper coupons to cater to shoppers who are not digitally savvy, particularly older customers and those without smartphones. The move is part of an overall strategy to offer value to price-sensitive shoppers that has included lowering prices on more than 3,500 items this year and promoting its private brands. "Our customers are recognizing these changes, and they're giving us credit for them," said interim CEO Ron Sargent. "Customer price perception improved in nearly every division this quarter, and we saw another quarter of sequential improvement in share."
