Change of Dismissal

To change your student’s dismissal, use the Change in Dismissal Form located on the Franconia ES school website.

You will need to provide details like your child's name, grade, and teacher, as well as specify how they will go home, such as early pick-up (specify time student is being picked up), Kiss and Ride, or a specific bus number.

Make sure to submit the request by the school's deadline of 2:00 pm

Please be aware that if another student is involved, the parents/guardians of the other student must also contact the school to confirm after-school arrangements.

A reminder that all early dismissals must occur before 3:00 pm

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!

Attendance is an important life skill that will help your child later in life. It’s a good habit to build now to help them graduate from college on time and routinely report to work on time once they have a career.

Take a look at the FCPS Calendar. Try to ensure that any trips or family events are on weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students who are absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered “chronically absent.”

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or appointment, you must report the absence to the school. Most schools have links to their attendance email or notification systems on their homepages. If you are unsure of how to contact them, call the front office.

Visit our Attendance webpage for resources on attendance.

Report Future Absences through ParentVUE

Parents and guardians can report full-day absences for the current school day and the next four school days using ParentVUE. For absences that extend beyond this five-day window, as well as for late arrivals and early dismissals, please contact the school directly (see Attendance Contact Information by School below).

  • All Day Absences: The Attendance feature in ParentVUE is the FCPS secure web solution for reporting all day absences.
  • Partial Absence: To report late arrivals, early dismissals, or to update already submitted attendance, please contact the school (see Attendance Contact Information by School below).

INFO ABOUT SEL

Social and Emotional Learning

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students.  In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school.

Franconia students in grades 3-5 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring.  Fall screening will be administered October 6-31.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account.  For more information about the SEL Screener, including information on opting out, please see the attached Parent Notification.  You can also learn more on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
