A study in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine found that yttrium-90 fibroblast activation protein inhibitor-46 led to near-complete responses in three patients with solitary fibrous tumors. The patients had high levels of the FAP protein and had not responded to standard treatments. "This is the first time we have seen such strong and deep responses in advanced SFT using this precision radiation approach," study co-author Dr. Rainer Hamacher said.

SNMMI's Mars Shot fund has awarded $5 million to 17 researchers since 2022 to advance nuclear medicine. "We haven't yet cured people with prostate cancer, but we're making significant progress," said fund chair Dr. Richard Wahl. Wisconsin has the most Mars Shot fund recipients, at three, and NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes and SHINE Technologies produce radioactive isotopes used in research and treatments.

The FDA granted fast-track status to Eisai's etalanetug, an investigational tau-targeting antibody that aims to suppress tau accumulation in people with dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease. Preliminary phase 1/2 trial results showed etalanetug reduced a cerebrospinal fluid biomarker associated with brain tau pathophysiology and suppressed tau signals on PET imaging.

The Government Accountability Office reminded the HHS chief information officer and component-level CIO to address 82 open recommendations to enhance cybersecurity. The GAO report highlights the need for HHS to implement event logging, identify duplicative pandemic IT systems, improve access controls within the NIH and take additional steps to protect the department's records and critical systems.

A report by PatientRightsAdvocate.org found that only 15% of hospitals sufficiently disclose dollars-and-cents prices as required under federal regulations, 43% of the 2,000 hospitals reviewed had fewer prices posted than in November, and 236 had no prices posted in dollars and cents. Some hospitals post algorithms or percentages instead of prices in dollars and cents, which do not provide sufficient details for the public to determine prices, according to the report.

Health Policy
Efforts to reform the prior authorization process in Medicare Advantage plans remain stalled in Congress despite bipartisan support for the Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act. The bill would establish a process for electronic prior authorization, set standards for attachments and increase transparency. The CMS has introduced regulations to streamline prior authorization, effective January 2026, but the agency is also launching a prior authorization pilot program for conventional Medicare.

Democratic leaders have introduced a funding bill to address the government shutdown threat, extending Affordable Care Act subsidies and reversing Medicaid cuts. The bill also restricts President Donald Trump's ability to reallocate funds without congressional approval. House Republicans had previously proposed a bill to extend the funding deadline, which they want a vote on by Friday.
