Vision & Hearing Screening

Volunteer opportunity for this week.

FCPS will be conducting a vision and hearing screening on Oct 15 and 16 for students in 10th grade and new to FCPS. The screenings at school are designed to detect unrecognized conditions as early as possible to allow for early intervention and remediation in order to limit potential disability and negative impact on a student’s scholastic performance. We need parent volunteers to assist. No experience is needed and training will be provided to all volunteers. Sign up here.

Vision and Hearing Screening for Sophomores and students new to FCPS

Vision and hearing screening will be held on October 15th and 16th for all Sophomores and students who are new to FCPS. If your child wears glasses, please be sure that they bring their glasses to school on the screening days. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning. If you would like to assist as a volunteer with the screening process, please contact our School Health Aide, Ms. Cabral, at (703) 287-2710.

College and Career Center

College Visits

LHS will be hosting college and university admission representatives for information sessions. These sessions are for junior and senior students only. The complete and the most up to date list of visits is available in Naviance; a weekly list will be shared on the Class of 2026 and Class of 2027 Schoology pages as well as through News You Choose.

These visits are for students only and require a signed pass from their teacher to attend; passes are available outside of the Career Center. Attending class should be the priority, students should not miss a test, quiz, or presentation to attend a visit. If students cannot attend, they can contact Ms. Burke for the admission representative's contact information.

2026-27 FAFSA Form Now Open

Federal Student Aid has made the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available ahead of the scheduled release date. Any college-bound high school senior — regardless of income — who wants to be considered for federal, state, and school financial aid programs should complete a FAFSA form. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to work with their students to complete the FAFSA as early as possible. Check each college’s financial aid office website for deadlines and financial aid forms. Then, create an account, if you have not already done so, and fill out the FAFSA

The Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) application has not yet opened but should be available in late January for students who are unable to complete the FAFSA. To help determine which aid option is right for you, visit the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia website.

Over the next few months, College Access Fairfax will be offering several programs on completing the FAFSA/VASA and finding and applying for scholarships. Get information on these programs and how to access them on the College Access Fairfax website

In addition, College Access Fairfax staff are available for virtual one-on-one help sessions to complete the FAFSA/VASA. To request an appointment, families should email appointments@CollegeAccessFairfax.org.
