Good afternoon, Whitman Families,
I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued partnership and support of our school community. Our students are working hard, and we are proud to share that their efforts are paying off. This fall, our i-Ready Reading assessments and MAP Math assessments show that students are achieving higher results compared to this time last year. These gains are a direct reflection of the dedication of our students, the commitment of our teachers, and the encouragement you provide at home.
As always, we remain focused on creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where every student can thrive. Please continue to encourage your child to come to school each day ready to learn and take advantage of the many opportunities available at Whitman Middle School. Together, we are making great progress and building momentum for an outstanding year.
Finally, I encourage you to support Whitman by joining us for our Afterschool Fundraiser at Chipotle Mexican Grill today, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will directly benefit our afterschool programs, helping us provide engaging activities and opportunities for all of our students. We hope to see you there!
Warm regards,
John Flowers, Principal
Cell phones can significantly impact academic performance — research has shown that it takes students 10 minutes or more to shift their focus back to learning after being interrupted by a single cell phone notification! You can help keep our schools phone-free (and your child focused on learning) by:
- Reminding your child about FCPS’ cell phone policy and telling them why you support it.
- Contacting your school’s front office (rather than your child directly) if there is a family emergency during the school day.
- Contacting your child about non-urgent matters before or after the school day.
- Waiting to respond to non-urgent texts from your child until the school day is over.
Learn more about FCPS’ cell phone and personal device policy. Also, view our Media Balance and Well-Being Toolkit for resources to help your child maintain a healthy and balanced relationship with technology at home.
