Israel and Hamas have held a hostage-prisoner swap as part of the first phase of a ceasefire deal. Twenty surviving hostages taken captive by Hamas on October 7, 2023 are now back in Israel, with the remains of four deceased hostages also returned. Just hours after the swap, the US and multiple Arab states signed a document backing the ceasefire agreement. "We have peace in the Middle East," US President Donald Trump told a Gaza peace summit.
