This is a dangerous period of the offseason, when the best of the best are still playing and the rest are left with a version of fantasy baseball, daydreaming about what next year might look like with the right high-profile acquisition(s).
With that caveat, let’s discuss a pending free agent who is a terrific fit for the Red Sox: Pete Alonso.
The Sox know they need power, particularly from the right side, regardless of whether Alex Bregman stays or goes. And they have room for a star at first base/DH.
Alonso, one of the preeminent sluggers of the decade, is looking for a new contract and perhaps a new team, depending on the Mets’ feelings about his second go-around with free agency.
