The Dunne Dispatch (School Boundaries, Part 12) - October 14, 2025
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
I am writing to share a summary of the proposed changes to school boundaries.
First, the revised map is published here. The revised map is labeled as Scenario 4. (The revised map was supposed to be published on Friday, but FCPS encountered technical glitches that caused a delay in publication.)
- Please contact my office (MountVernon@fcps.edu) if you identify any potential errors. I want to be proactive in identifying any errors that need to be corrected.
- Please also contact my office (MountVernon@fcps.edu) if you want to propose particular changes.
- If your school is under capacity, you could organize your community to request a boundary change to increase enrollment.
- If your school is near capacity and you want to avoid any modulars or trailers at your school, you could organize your community to propose a boundary change to reduce enrollment.
- If your school is over capacity and you want to reduce or eliminate existing modulars and trailers at your school, you could organize your community to propose a boundary change to reduce enrollment.
Second, here are the dates for schools attended by students residing in the Mount Vernon District. You can attend in person or virtual. FCPS has confirmed that each community meeting will focus on the designated pyramids, so I strongly encourage you to attend the meeting designated for your high school pyramid. (The presentation at the first community meeting yesterday included an extensive explanation of proposed changes relative to current boundaries.) Please note that FCPS could make further changes before the map is approved by the School Board, so it is important for you to raise your voice now if you want to avoid any particular changes.
-
Wednesday, October 22, 6:30-8:00 PM, Hayfield SS Cafeteria (for Hayfield HS and South County HS Pyramids)
-
Friday, October 24, 6:30-8:00 PM, Lewis HS Cafeteria (for Lewis HS and Edison HS Pyramids)
-
Saturday, October 25, 9:30-11:00 AM, Sandburg MS Cafeteria (for Mount Vernon HS and West Potomac HS Pyramids)
Third, here is my summary of the proposed changes to school boundaries. My analysis is limited to schools attended by students residing in the Mount Vernon District. The changes are concentrated in elementary schools. The changes to middle schools and high schools are minor, except for Edison HS. Again, FCPS could make further changes before the map is approved by the School Board.
