There’s a lot to appreciate about the career-spanning retrospective, which connects the dots between the filmmaker’s recurring cinematic themes with his lifelong fascination with religion, societal underbellies, and the human capacity for goodness and sin. And what’s most compelling is how Miller manages to balance reverence with critique, allowing viewers to understand some of Scorsese’s personal and artistic limitations alongside his gifts. – Aisha Harris
