| You’d think modeling a simple USB-C cable would be, well… simple. Yeah, nope. I was working on a new cord organizer for 3D printing and figured I’d model the cord itself in Fusion 360 first — just to make sure the fit would be perfect. Things started fine. A few extrusions. Some full-round fillets. Nothing too spicy. Then came the challenge: That awkward angle where the cable flattens out… and then drops straight down. That’s where it got interesting. To make it work, I had to break out 3D sketching, custom sweeps, and a little Fusion trickery involving mirrored rails and tangent arcs. Not exactly beginner-friendly. But also kinda fun. Lesson learned? Cables aren’t as boring to model as you’d think. And if your sweep isn’t working… it’s probably your path. Or the fillet. Or the sketch wasn’t fully connected. (Ask me how I know.) |
