Raising Healthy Children in a Digital World

Hayfield Elementary celebrated Digital Citizenship Week in October.  If you were unable to attend the Parent Workshop on Thursday, October 23rd, check out the link to the presentation and more tips and activities you can do at home to support raising healthy children in a digital world.

Veteran's Day Breakfast

Hayfield Elementary School will be honoring Veteran's Day with a family breakfast on Monday, November 10th at 8:45am.  Please complete this Google Form to opt your child into attending the breakfast.  If you are also able to attend, please complete this form for each family member or student attending.

Speakers may also sign up to visit classrooms after breakfast.  Recorded videos are also welcome and should be sent to the classroom teacher.  Students should arrive on time and go to their classroom for attendance to be taken and will be called down to the Cafeteria at 8:45am.

All classroom speakers must be registered in Volunteer FCPS as a Level 1 volunteer or higher.  Follow the hyperlink to "Sign Up" as a Veteran's Day Speaker.  All visitors will need to sign in to the front office so be sure to bring your ID.

Veteran's Day Wall of Heroes

As Veterans Day approaches, Hayfield Elementary School would like to honor those who have served and are serving in the Armed Forces. If you would like to recognize someone in your family, please fill out the My Hero form about the family member or friend you would like to honor.

My Hero forms may be returned to classroom teachers throughout the month of November. These posters will be displayed in the hallway to remind our students and visitors of the meaning and importance of recognizing our Veterans. The form will be sent home in Thursday folders and are available to print from the Hayfield Elementary website.  If you would like to honor more than one Veteran, please feel free to make copies of this form.

Sixth Grade Information

Sexual Harassment 6th grade lesson:

To build and maintain safe and supportive school environments, Fairfax County Public Schools has developed one lesson to educate students in 6th grade on the topic of sexual harassment. This lesson seeks to provide students with the necessary information, resources, and strategies to help prevent occurrences of sexual harassment as well as outline the steps to take if they feel they are target of these behaviors so that they are able to continue to focus on learning in an environment that feels comfortable and secure. The lesson is taught by the school counselor as part of their counseling curriculum. At Hayfield Elementary School, this lesson will be taught to students during the month of November.

Parents/guardians may choose to opt their child out of the lesson on the topic of sexual harassment. Students who are opted out are provided with age-appropriate instruction, and every effort is made to foster respect for family choice. If you wish to opt your child out of the sexual harassment lesson, please return the form attached to this letter to the school prior to November 1, 2025. Please note that those families who have opted their child out of school counseling services will automatically be opted out of the lesson on the topic of sexual harassment. Parents/guardians may request to view the lesson prior to deciding whether to opt their child(ren) out of the lessons. Please reach out to the school counselor for instructions on how to preview the lessons. Please see the link below for the opt-out form.

Youth Survey for 6th grade

The Fairfax County Youth Survey, a collaboration between the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is a comprehensive, anonymous, and voluntary survey given each year to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The survey examines behaviors, experiences, and other factors that influence the health and well-being of Fairfax County's youth.

The survey will be administered between November 10 and November 21, 2025, during a time of day determined by your child's school administration. A copy of the survey will be available to parents and/or caregivers online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/youth-surveyby October 10, 2025.

While it is our hope that as many students as possible will participate, if you do not wish for your child to take part in the survey, please complete the opt-out form that was sent and return it to your child's school counselor no later than November 6, 2025. If you have already opted your child out of school counseling services through the Parental Digital Consent Portal, you do not need to complete the form.

SNAP Update

Important SNAP Update

Governor Glenn Youngkin has declared a State of Emergency to address the lapse in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits starting Nov. 1 due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.

  • To fill this gap the State has created an emergency food assistance program called Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA).
  • VENA will provide emergency food assistance to eligible SNAP households while the federal shutdown continues in November.
  • The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) is implementing VENA directly, without local Fairfax County involvement.
  • Emergency food assistance under VENA will be added to existing SNAP EBT cards starting Nov. 3.

Check Lost and Found

Lost and Found

Please check Lost and Found ASAP for missing items!  We specifically have a lot of gray sweatshirts and a plethora of hoodies.

Because we have limited space and A LOT of Lost and Found, items are donated twice a school year around Winter Break and on the last day of school.  But don't wait because as the pile grows it's harder to find your items.  If you know families that practice or play games at Hayfield remind them to check Lost and Found too!
