ART - Fixed Route Services

October Service Changes
Effective October 5, 2025, Arlington Transit (ART) made minor adjustments to ART Routes 45 and 52. On street information and online schedules have been updated to follow the new schedule. Please get familiar with the new timetables and schedules listed for each route.
Route 45: Minor timing adjustments to coordinate departure times with Metrobus F62 to provide regular headways on Saturday and Sunday. Previously, ART 45 and Metrobus F62 buses travel the corridor with only 2-3 minutes between the buses. By spacing the departure times, this will provide better service in the corridor between Rosslyn Metro and N Pershing Street.
Route 52: Making minor adjustment to eliminate excess wait time along routes and aligning arrival/departure times with the ART 51 at Ballston – MU Metro.

Upcoming Service Changes for January 2026
Be on the lookout for service change updates rolling out January 2026 on ART Routes 42, 75 and 87.
ART 42 will look to adjust the running times during midday service to improve on-time performance with the ultimate goal of being more reliable. This will allow customers to plan their trips effectively moving forward.
ART 75 Funded by NVTC I66 Commuter Choice Grant, will allow ART to add trips to increase frequency from every 30 minutes to every 20 minutes. This change will improve on-time performance, increase service for equity emphasis area neighborhoods, and improve service to Arlington County Public Schools (ACPS) like Kenmore Middle School, Wakefield High School, and Washington-Liberty High School.
ART 87 Funded by NVTC I395 Commuter Choice will eliminate the ART 87A/P/X variants to consolidate them into a single route, ART 87. There will be 10-minute frequencies in the peak periods (5:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM). The additional resources added to this route will look to improve on-time performance, and provide greater frequency along the regular routing without the short trips from ART 87A/P/X.
ART Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) are on the streets! The four pilot buses include three with 588 kWh batteries and one with 686 kWh, allowing ART to test range and performance across all route types. Three out of the four are 40-foot buses and one is 35-foot.
These buses are expected to travel 150–200 miles per charge, depending on temperature, terrain, driving behavior, and use of regenerative braking that sends power back to the batteries. They charge via a standard DC fast-charge port or via pantograph rails mounted on the roof that we have installed at Arlington County Operations and Maintenance Facility (AOMF).
Throughout the pilot we are watching for consistent passenger capacity. Passenger layouts match ART’s existing fleet:
-
35-foot BEB: 31 seated / up to 62 standing
-
40-foot BEB: 38 seated / up to 75 standing All are ADA-accessible and accommodate multiple wheelchairs.
The BEBs share the low-floor GILLIG platform with ART’s existing 15 CNG buses, streamlining maintenance and operator training.
