Atoms Field Hockey to play at Independence for State Quarterfinals
Atoms field hockey has qualified for the VHSL State Tournament that begins play on Tuesday, November 4. The Atoms will travel to Independence High School in Ashburn for a 6:00pm start.
Online ticket price is $10 (plus a $1.50 fee). Cash will be accepted at the gate for $12. There is NO special student pricing. Tickets to the game can be purchased HERE.

Atoms Girls Volleyball to host Alexandria City for Region First Round
The Atoms girls volleyball program secured the three seed in the Occoquan Region Tournament. The Atoms will host Alexandria City Monday, November 3 at 6:30pm. Ticket prices are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
**Atoms Booster passes are not accepted**
Winter Sports Tryouts
Winter sports include boys & girls basketball, swim & dive, boys & girls wrestling, gymnastics, sideline cheer, and indoor track. In order to participate, there are 2 items that need to be completed prior to the first day of tryouts: 1) Sports Physical - Completed and turned in to Athletic Trainers Ryan Hughes and 2) Activity Registration. This is an online submission that encompasses the Emergency Care Form and Concussion Education Training.

Atoms Athletics Recap
Girls Volleyball started their postseason play Monday evening with a home quarterfinal match vs Lewis. The Atoms took care of the Lancers as they dominated to a 3-0 win to move on to the semis. In that matchup, the Atoms welcomed TJ to campus. The match turned out to be a result not in favor of the Atoms as they fell 3-1 to the Colonials. Despite the loss the Atoms have qualified for the Region Tournament. They secured the three seed and will host Alexandria City at Annandale on Monday evening at 6:30pm.
Boys Volleyball season came to a close Monday evening at Hayfield. The Atoms traveled to the Hawks for their quarterfinal district game. The Atoms played hard throughout but couldn't crack the Hawks as they fell 3-0 to bring their season to an end.
Field Hockey played a historic week of games this week! First up was a region quarterfinal game with Robinson. This was the fourth time in four years that the Atoms have played Robinson in the region tournament and every game was close. However, this time was different as they Atoms dominated the Rams in every fashion to win 4-1! A quick turnaround welcome Lake Braddock to campus for a semifinal matchup. The Atoms continued the hot play from the night before taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Bruins scored in the third but it was the Atoms who would put one final goal into the net to secure the win 3-1, a spot in the region final, and state bid! The Atoms played for their second region championship in school history Thursday evening at Fairfax. The fans were treated to an incredible game that saw the Atoms first goal get erased off the board due to a foul. The Lions got on the board first in the second quarter and stayed that way until the Atoms got one by the goalie in the fourth quarter to tie it up. The game stayed that way into double OT and the Lions squeezing one past the Atoms to secure the win 2-1. The Atoms next travel to Independence High School for their state quarterfinal matchup with the Tigers at 6:00pm.
Football was on a bye week and plays their final game of the season at Mount Vernon on Friday at 7:00pm.
Boys Cross Country completed their season at the Occoquan Region Championship Wednesday afternoon at Burke Lake. The Atoms ran well but were unable to qualify for the state meet. Many of the Atoms now prepare for the Indoor Track season.
Girls Flag Football played three games this week and came out victorious in all three! The beat Justice in game one of the week and played TJ in their second game on the same evening. The Atoms lost to TJ the previous week but this time they would not be denied as they won in dramatic fashion on a touchdown pass at the end of the game. Game three of the week was a revenge game vs Falls Church and the Atoms were dominant! They dismantled the Jaguars to the tune of 26-0! The Atoms play their final two games of the season at Lewis on Monday evening.

New Athletic/Activity Registration
Returning Athletes: ALL Families will need to create a NEW ACCOUNT. ONE account per family, where you will be able to register multiple students. Your previous log-in will not work, you must create a new one. Once you create your new account, log-in and register your student for this year.

VHSL Physical Updated Information for 2025-2026
Legislation introduced in the Virginia General Assembly and recently signed into law will result in two significant changes to the athletic pre-participation examination (physical) requirements for FCPS student-athletes:
- Beginning July 1, 2025, athletic physicals will be considered valid for a period of 14 months from the date the form is signed by the medical provider completing the exam. This is the date on page 3 of the VHSL Athletic Participation/Parent Consent/Physical Examination Form (revised January 2021).
- Beginning May 1, 2025, FCPS student-athletes are EXPECTED to have athletic physicals completed on the new VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Evaluation Form (revised April 2025).
New VHSL Transfer Information
ALL TRANSFER STUDENTS by default are INELIGIBLE. More information can be found on the FCPS Website.
The NEW Guardian application process must be started before the transfer students is considered "bona fide".
ALL Transfer students must complete the Guardian application process to be declared eligible.
NO TRANSFER IS ELIGIBLE UNTIL THERE IS NOTICE FROM THE GUARDIAN SYSTEM THAT INCLUDES A VHSL CITATION AND POST SEASON ELIGIBILITY.
