SNAP payments missed amid gov't shutdown have been paid in Mass., Healey says

Delayed SNAP benefits have been paid out to people in Massachusetts, Gov. Maura Healey confirmed Saturday morning, as the Supreme Court weighs a legal challenge to the Trump administration’s suspension of the food aid program.

Millions of Americans rely on SNAP benefits to pay for food, but the Trump administration suspended the program when the government shut down, and it’s been the subject of a legal saga still playing out in courts.

Massachusetts and other states sued, saying that contingency funds were available to pay benefits for November, and a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered the government to release funding. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which administers SNAP benefits, said on Friday that it would pay full benefits for November while the appeals process played out, and on Friday night, the Supreme Court provisionally blocked the judge’s order, sending it back to an appeals court for further review.

Man appears to have a seizure as ICE arrests his wife, but U.S. officials push back

A Massachusetts man seen on video having an apparent seizure during a struggle with immigration agents as he holds his wife and crying toddler says he lost consciousness after agents pushed and hit him and pressed on his neck.

Department of Homeland Security officials accused him of faking the medical emergency to keep agents from arresting his wife, who was wanted for allegedly stabbing a co-worker with scissors.

“I wasn’t letting go of my wife because they wanted to take her away,” Carlos Zapata, 24, told The Boston Globe in Spanish, before speaking to NBC10 Boston sister station Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra. He spoke to both on Friday, a day after his wife was detained in a chaotic traffic stop.

Showers develop this afternoon, will taper off late tonight

A big cooldown comes in next week. Clouds are increasing today as the next system approaches from the southwest.

Most of the morning stays dry, but showers will develop through the afternoon and early evening, spreading north across the region. Rain will be light to moderate and taper off late tonight, with the heaviest activity likely toward the Cape and Islands where a brief rumble of thunder is possible.

Temperatures will top out in the 50s for most, right where we should be this time of year with average highs in the mid 50s.

Patriots-Bucs preview: Tight end duo could play key role vs. Tampa's blitz

The Patriots, one could deduce, find themselves in a bit of a philosophical bind.

On the one hand, they have a dynamic young quarterback whose ability to extend plays and create explosive gains is among his greatest strengths. On the other hand, extending plays the way Drake Maye does can lead to the type of physical punishment that could cause those explosive plays to suddenly disappear in a wisp of smoke.

What’s the answer, then? How do they fix it? Maye is second in the NFL this season with 34 sacks taken, behind only Titans rookie Cam Ward (38).
