Good afternoon. It’s Monday, Nov. 10.

In today's newsletter:

  • Alaska’s two U.S. senators voted Sunday in favor of a bill that could pave the way to ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. The fate of health care subsidies used by millions of Americans is still unknown.

  • The Municipality of Anchorage plans to build a new transit center to improve both passenger safety and the ease of ride transfers near the busy Muldoon and DeBarr intersection.

  • Some of the Republican candidates running for Alaska governor view fundraising as a useful measure of support — but with a crowded GOP field, raising money has been a challenge.

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and while the traditional ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson has been canceled due to the government shutdown, an event honoring veterans will be held at Merrill Field. There are also several offers and specials for veterans and active military members. You can learn more about those and the Veterans Day ceremony here.

Anchorage weather

It's mostly cloudy today with a high around 27 degrees. Looking ahead, the forecast calls for patchy, freezing fog overnight and into Tuesday, followed by mostly sunny skies later that day and on Wednesday. Daytime highs will range from the low to high 20s over the next several days.

Here’s what else is making headlines in Alaska today.
