Have a tall shelf in your closet or a high cabinet in your kitchen? It’s hard to use that space effectively if you can’t reach it. Keeping a step-stool nearby makes it more likely that you’ll use the things you store up there.

These days, you can rent just about anything — camping gear, formalwear, specialty tools, extra chairs and tables. If you know you’re only going to use it once, save money and avoid the clutter by renting. And don’t forget to check out your local library. Many libraries lend out tools, sports equipment, camping gear, games, puzzles, and other surprising items.
