Health and safety law poster: what you need to know

The poster explains health and safety laws and lists what workers and their employers should do.

If you employ anyone, you must either:
  • display the health and safety law poster where your workers can easily read it
  • provide each worker with the equivalent health and safety law leaflet

There are various versions of the health and safety law poster, so you can select the most appropriate one for your business. You can:

HSE also provides health and safety law pocket cards. These are a legal alternative to the law poster and are easy to distribute for your workers to carry with them.

Plastics firm fined following fatal machinery accident

A plastics conversion company was fined £277,500 following the fatal incident.

The worker had entered an opening in the side of a plastic conversion machine that permitted whole-body access to dangerous moving parts. The area contained several unguarded mechanisms, and he became trapped in the moving parts of the unguarded machine.

Despite efforts by the emergency services, the worker died at the scene from crush asphyxia.

HSE's investigation found that the company had failed to:

  • carry out a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for operation of the machine
  • not installed appropriate guarding to prevent access to dangerous parts
  • have written safe systems of work or isolation procedures in place

Consultation launched on the Control of Asbestos Regulations and guidance

The consultation is now open for comments until 9 January 2026.

HSE has launched a consultation on proposals to improve the application of the Control of Asbestos Regulations and guidance around asbestos management to help protect workers and building users.

The consultation aims to seek stakeholders’ views on 3 proposals:

  • to ensure the independence and impartiality of roles in the 4-stage clearance process to further minimise the risk of exposure from asbestos to workers and building users after the removal of asbestos
  • to drive up the standard of asbestos surveys to ensure dutyholders have the information they need to safely manage asbestos risks
  • to clarify the type of work that constitutes work with asbestos known as notifiable non-licensed work (NNLW)

Find out more about the consultation in our press notice: proposals to enhance worker and public protection from asbestos exposure.
