Survey: Insurance execs focus on AI investment for efficiency
A PwC survey of 136 insurance executives found 54% of respondents saying that generative and agentic AI are likely to be the industry's biggest source of transformation in the coming three years. Meanwhile, 57% said generative and agentic AI are priorities for investment next year. PwC's Marie Carr said reducing cycle time is a major part of improving efficiency via AI.

Expert: Roof shingle "brittleness tests" raise ethical concerns
"Brittleness tests" for roof shingles lacks an officially approved method and can be misused in pursuing insurance claims for wind damage, writes George Miles, a mechanical engineer in Florida. Miles writes that he has noticed a resurgence of cases in which shingles appear to have been damaged manually, even on newer roofs. "Stopping the unethical behavior will take effort from the courts and from the Florida Board of Professional Engineers" as well as state lawmakers, Miles writes.

Survey: Many drivers open to AI help with insurance shopping
An online survey found 86% of respondents saying they would trust AI to assist them in shopping for and purchasing auto insurance, with 76% trusting AI to compare multiple quotes, according to an Insurify report. Among the drivers surveyed, 42% reported having used AI assistants to shop for auto coverage, the report says.

Insurers likely will face headwinds in 2026 due to economic volatility and weather-related events, but they can counter these challenges with strategies to retain customers and innovate their product offerings, TransUnion says in a report. Cyberinsurance presents risk and opportunity, as a survey found more than one-third of businesses reported a cyberincident in the last year, but over half said they had not purchased cyber coverage, and over one-fourth said they had never been offered such coverage, the report says.

Doubts rise among Fed officials about Dec. rate cut
Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari remains undecided about supporting a rate cut at the Federal Reserve's December meeting. Citing unexpectedly strong economic activity and ongoing resilience, Kashkari explained that recent data does not clearly support another cut, but also does not rule one out. San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly also expressed uncertainty, although Boston Fed President Susan Collins and other officials advocated for holding rates steady to balance inflation and labor market weakness.
