Industry-led source reduction progresses toward reducing packaging volume
Industry-led source reduction initiatives decreased US packaging volume by about 5 metric tons from 2019 to 2024, according to a report from the American Institute for Packaging and the Environment, the Consumer Brands Association and the Consumer Technology Association. This progress was significant, especially given the intense growth in ecommerce during the time, but long-term success will rely on continued cooperation by the companies that have voluntarily adopted measures such as lightweighting, implementing material shift strategies and transitioning to reusable packaging.
