WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today awarded $2,383,398 in additional funding to support continued disaster-relief jobs and employment and training services for West Virginia residents in the aftermath of February 2025 severe storms. In May 2025, the department’s Employment and Training Administration awarded an emergency National Dislocated Worker Grant of $1 million to WorkForce West Virginia to begin disaster relief activities while the state continued to assess the full impact of the storms. In February 2025, severe storms caused floods, landslides and mudslides, resulting in widespread damage across south and central West Virginia. Today’s additional funding will allow the state to continue to support disaster-relief employment by providing short-term training and work experience through flood cleanup and recovery activities. This Disaster Recovery National Dislocated Worker Grant allows WorkForce West Virginia to provide residents with temporary jobs focused on cleanup and recovery efforts, as well as offer employment and training services to 250 eligible participants in affected communities. Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, National Dislocated Worker Grants provide a state or local board with funding for direct services and assistance in areas experiencing a major economic dislocation event that leads to workforce needs exceeding available resources.
