Wow! What an incredible Thanksgiving Luncheon in the Forest! Today might be the highest family turnout we've ever seen with nearly 400 visitors. Thank you to our staff in the kitchen for putting together this traditional event for our students and families. It takes so much planning, preparing, and serving to make it run smoothly from start to finish.

Next week is Thanksgiving Break. All FCPS schools and offices will be closed November 26 to 28. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

School will resume on Monday, December 1. See the complete school year calendar.

Sincerely,

Angela Thompson
Principal

Thank you to NFS Community for Supporting our Book Fair

What do you get when you out together 80+ staff members, 40+ volunteers, 500+ students and a handful of extremely generous people?  An incredibly book fair right before Thanksgiving!

Our sales were great.  Because of your generosity, the NFS community raised approximately $4,360 to support our school’s reading programs. Additionally, parent financial donors helped 67 students go the fair and expanded classroom libraries. Most importantly, students experience the joy of reading and the book fair.  All this wouldn’t have been possible without the substantial donations and community support.  We extend our deepest gratitude to our big-hearted community.

The students and staff of Newington Forest Elementary School would like to thank all those who helped to make this year’s book fair a wonderful success including our many volunteers, donors, and all those who supported us by visiting the library during the book fair and purchasing books.  A special thank you to

❄️ Prepare for Winter Weather

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather closing decisions are made at FCPS.

FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible, including email, text, social media, the new FCPS mobile app, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.

Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange emergency child care if needed.

⛄ Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities

We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories that may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. View the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.

If you need assistance getting cold-weather clothing for your family, please call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning (CSP) at 703-222-0880. Their multilingual staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health.

FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can all acknowledge the good work of our Newington Forest staff members.
