Dear TJHSST Families,
I hope everyone is ready for the Thanksgiving break! Quick update this week with information about community Thanksgiving dinners, how to see your child's SEL screener results, a reminder for everyone who hasn't done so already to fill out your Federal Impact Aid survey (we sent individualized Talking Points and E-Notify messages to you on Thursday, Nov. 20 if you were still missing it - please do it as its important), and a note on our annual Toy Drive.
An update on our publication schedule the next couple of weeks. With the Thanksgiving break next week there will be no Jefferson Journal on November 28. We will resume in two weeks with the News You Choose December newsletter on December 5.
As always, please feel to reach out to me if you have any questions. Please have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mike Roth
TJHSST Director of Communications

We hope you will join us!
Students at TJ took the SEL Screener last month, providing information on skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to school staff.
TJ and FCPS are asking all families to fill out a Federal Impact Aid Survey. The form is available in SIS ParentVUE under Online Packets, which is in the upper right corner of the screen after logging in. Please complete it as soon as possible. We will provide paper forms to families who have not completed the survey in ParentVUE starting Wednesday, November 12.
Completing this form for each school-aged child in every household is important. This year, FCPS expects to receive approximately $4 million in Impact Aid funding. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
For more information, visit the Federal Impact Aid Survey page.
TJ Holiday Toys for Tots Drive kicks off Monday, November 2! We are collecting new and unwrapped toys to help families have a brighter holiday season.
Have your child drop off a new, unwrapped toy donation in the boxes located in the Main Office or the Activities Office anytime between November 24 and December 10.
You can also bring toys to our girls’ or boys’ home basketball openers on Tuesday, December 2, or Thursday, December 4, and receive free admission!
The drive ends December 10, so let's make this the biggest toy drive TJ has ever seen! Thank you for your support!
*Toys needed for age groups 0-2 and 11-14, No cosmetics, liquids, or fragile items*
