Oak View ES,
As you may know, Mrs. Adams is currently out on medical leave recovering from surgery. During her absence, Amy Riddick, our School-Based Technology Specialist (SBTS), will serve as our Acting Assistant Principal. While we had originally anticipated welcoming Joan Carter back into this role, plans have since changed, and we are pleased to have Mrs. Riddick join our administrative team.
Mrs. Riddick is a trusted and experienced member of our faculty, having served as our SBTS for the past five years. With deep roots at Oak View, she has seamlessly stepped into this position, bringing strong knowledge of our students, staff, and school community. To ensure a smooth transition, a substitute will support Mrs. Riddick’s SBTS responsibilities while she serves in this acting role so that all aspects of our school continue to run effectively.
Warmly,
Jamie Luerssen
Principal

Window for Full-Time AAP Referrals Closes on December 15
Parents and guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) services must submit the AAP Full-Time Referral Form to Kathryn Moreno-Dunk, our AART, no later than December 15, 2025.
Each year, families can submit a referral for full-time AAP services any time from the first day of school through December 15. No late referrals for full-time AAP services will be accepted.
Once a referral is received, our school will compile information related to the student. Then, a committee of six trained professionals from across the county will review materials to determine eligibility for full-time AAP services.
Next Steps for Parents
Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of their child’s materials after February 20, 2026, by emailing Kathryn Moreno-Dunk.
At the elementary level, referrals for subject-specific and part-time AAP are screened by the school. If you miss the full-time referral deadline, your student can still be screened for subject-specific or part-time AAP services for the remainder of the year.
For more information, please visit the Advanced Academic Programs webpage.

If you haven't signed up for the portal yet, use the link at the bottom of your weekly Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email. To learn more, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page on the FCPS website.
Social and Emotional Learning Screener: Parent Reports
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener last month, providing information on skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results will be available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE this week. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, results will be shared by our school.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to school staff.
Join the Oak View Family Book Club!

Use this Google Form to express interest by December 1. The first 75 families to sign up will receive a complimentary copy of the book.

PTA Get Well Soon Project for Ms. Adams
The PTA is creating two “Get Well Soon” banners for students and staff to sign. Big thanks to our art teachers, Ms. Sousa and Ms. Williams, for hosting them in their classrooms. If your child would like to add a personal card or drawing (8.5" x 11" or smaller), please drop it in the Get Well Soon Ms. Adams box in the front office by Monday, December 8. All notes and banners will be mailed to her after school that day.
Winter Book Fair Begins Next Week!
The Book Fair kicks off with Family Night on Thursday, December 4, from 5–7 p.m., held alongside OV Curriculum Night! Come browse amazing book selections, stock up on holiday reading and gifts (because books make the best gifts!), and enjoy a book-themed craft station.
Students will also visit the Book Fair with their classes the following week through Thursday, December 11, and we need lots of volunteer help to make this event a success!
