Nurse-led intervention may aid patients with cancer
A study in the journal Supportive Care in Cancer found that a nurse-led intervention improved psychological health and sleep quality for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent minimally invasive ablation. The intervention focused on enhancing well-being through positive emotions. Patients in the intervention group showed greater improvements in anxiety, depression and sleep quality compared with those who received conventional care.

Opinion: Palliative care can help improve care
Family nurse practitioner Charmaine Lim writes that palliative care can help health care organizations as they prepare for changes to medicare eligibility and reimbursement. "By developing and implementing palliative care policies over the next few years, healthcare organizations can expect to improve the quality of care for patients with chronic illness and simultaneously reduce healthcare expenses," Lim writes.

Buprenorphine effective in reducing opioid overdose risk
Buprenorphine was effective at reducing risk of opioid overdose, but only if taken as directed over the long term, according to a study published in the journal Pediatrics. The study found that patients who adhered to their buprenorphine regimens for at least six months had a lower risk of overdose compared  with those who did not.
