Principals' Message
Hello White Oaks Community,
It is truly remarkable that Thanksgiving is just around the corner! This year is soaring past, and every day, our students continue to inspire us with their dedication and persistent efforts.
As we prepare for a moment of reflection and gratitude, we want to express our deepest thanks for the continuous support and flexibility we receive from every corner of the White Oaks community.
Margaret J. Wheatley reminds us, "There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." It is very clear that the White Oaks community deeply cares about its students. Together, we are fundamentally transforming their educational experience, driven by a commitment to ensuring every single student’s needs are being addressed. We are genuinely honored to collaborate with such an amazing and passionate community.
After a welcome return to a full five-day week, we look ahead to the upcoming break. When we return from Thanksgiving, we will launch into three vibrant, action-packed weeks filled with learning and activities.
Please note: Due to the short week, there will be no Eagle Express newsletter next week.
We wish everyone a truly wonderful Thanksgiving break, filled with family, profound rest, and well-deserved relaxation.
Have a POSITIVE weekend!
Melanie, Neena, & Josh

Healthy Meals and School Policy
White Oaks is dedicated to student health and safety, which includes promoting nutritious eating through our curriculum and cafeteria selections. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these healthy habits at school.
General Meal Guidelines:
- We strongly encourage families to send healthy, nutritious lunches and snacks.
- We ask that you do not send fast food, carbonated soft drinks, or beverages in glass bottles.
Policy and Safety Reasons: Our guidelines are in place for several important reasons:
-
Health Promotion: To reinforce the importance of nutritional eating.
-
Food Allergies: To reduce the risk of allergic reactions from cross-contamination (particularly with outside fast food).
-
Equity: To prevent peer pressure associated with items that are not accessible to all families.
Guidelines for Lunch Visitors
We welcome you to join your child for lunch! To support our health and safety policies:
- Visitors typically purchase a school lunch or bring a healthy bag lunch from home.
- Please do not bring fast food or soft drinks when visiting.
Important: Soft drinks are prohibited for sale to students across all FCPS schools (K-12) during the school day.
Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener Results Now Available
Students in grades 3-12 took the SEL Screener during the month of October, providing information on their SEL skills like achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships, and making responsible decisions. The screener also asks students how well their school community makes them feel valued, included, and supported.
Individual student SEL Screener results are now available to families in the Documents section of SIS ParentVUE. For families who do not have an active ParentVUE account, we will share copies with you directly.
For support in understanding your individual student’s results or for ideas on how to support them at home, please review the Family Guide or reach out to our school staff with any questions.
AAP Full-Time Services
If you want to refer your child to be screened for full time AAP services for the 2026-27 school year, now is the time to submit your paperwork. All referrals are due to Ms. Holmes no later than Dec. 15. No referrals will be accepted after this date. For your child to be screened, you must submit the Advanced Academics Full Time AAP Services Referral Form. You may also choose to submit the Parent/Guardian Questionnaire and up to two work samples. All forms (with translations) can be found at Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Forms. Students in grades 2-6 may be referred for full time AAP services screening. Questions? Contact Ms. Holmes at blholmes@fcps.edu.

Staff & Teacher White Elephant Gift Exchange
As the holiday season approaches, we are preparing to help with the Staff & Teacher White Elephant Gift Exchange—a fun and lighthearted way for them to celebrate all the hard work everyone puts in!
To make this event a success, we are reaching out to our wonderful parent community for a little help!
What We Need: Gently Used or Regifted Treasures
We are requesting donations of gently used items or regifted items from your home. This is a fantastic, no-cost way to contribute and make the exchange exciting!
-
Look around your home:Do you have an item that is still in great condition but is no longer needed? Perhaps a decorative piece, a nice kitchen gadget, or a unique novelty item?
-
Regift a thoughtful present:Did you receive a gift in the past that you appreciated but never used? A beautifully packaged bath set, an unopened book, or a new candle makes a perfect regifted item.
Please Note: The goal is to provide gently used or new/unopened items (value range is flexible, but typically around $10-$20 new). We kindly ask that all donations are clean, in good working order, and appropriate for an adult audience.
