Dear Mother Jones Reader,
I don’t often write to you, because it’s Mother Jones’ amazing journalists you should be hearing from, but this week, as many of us take a moment to catch a breath and give thanks, my mind has been on you—our readers.
I started out at Mother Jones as an intern back in the 1980s, when the Reagan administration was trying to put us out of business. It didn’t work. Now we’re approaching our 50th year, and I’m honored to serve as chair of our board of directors. So it comes from the heart when I say: Thank you for caring, for staying fearless, and for standing with us at a time when independent journalism matters most.
What is required to do this work—to publish fearless journalism at a time when truth itself feels under siege—is a community. That’s you—your support, your time, your willingness to read, to share, and to engage. That’s what keeps Mother Jones’ tenacious reporting alive.
Every time you read a story, share it, or like or comment on social media, you become a part of the community that says: Yes, facts matter. Yes, power should be challenged. And yes, independent voices are essential.
Mother Jones is powered by readers like you who believe that journalism makes a difference. Your support proves that belief is not just aspirational—it’s actionable.
With gratitude and best wishes for a happy holiday,
