Afternoon Briefing

Monday, November 24, 2025

Good afternoon, Chicago.

Travelers heading to O’Hare International and Midway airports this week can rest assured that a government-shutdown-related national air traffic meltdown has been averted, airlines said. Passengers can expect things to be mostly back to normal after a rocky period this fall, airlines said.

The Federal Aviation Administration is expecting the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in 15 years this year. More than 52,000 flights are expected to take off tomorrow, the peak travel day of the season.

Meanwhile, the holiday week will start overcast for Chicago-area residents before turning sharply colder for a blustery travel day Wednesday and a breezy Thanksgiving Thursday.

Here’s what else is happening today. And remember, for the latest breaking news in Chicago, visit chicagotribune.com/latest-headlines and sign up to get our alerts on all your devices.
