My mother, sister and I always enjoyed various craft-making projects together. But it wasn’t until people started offering to pay us for certain items that we considered doing crafts professionally.

We got a business license, set up a booth at the Country Sampler store in Knoxville, Tennessee, and set about entering contests in the major craft shows that year and reserving spots for the next year. Starting so late in the season, we missed several deadlines but were able to get on waiting lists and were surprised when an opening came for a large, outdoor street festival. We were ecstatic, but we only had a few weeks to prepare. (Keep reading)
