24-year-old Cape Cod man killed in early morning crash on Thanksgiving

One man is dead after a crash involving two cars on Cape Cod early Thanksgiving morning.

Police in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, say they received 911 calls around 1:13 a.m. Thursday reporting a crash on West Yarmouth Road, north of Sheffield Road, and arrived to find two cars with significant damage, one of which was off the roadway against a tree.

First responders began rendering aid to the critically injured 24-year-old driver, who was still inside the vehicle that appeared to have crashed into a tree. Despite these efforts, however, the Yarmouth Port man was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital, police said.

Taunton BBQ owner serves up free Thanksgiving meals amid SNAP benefit concerns

Thanksgiving is all about giving, and one Massachusetts business owner is taking that to heart.

Sylvester English, owner of Kinfolks BBQ in Taunton, opened his doors for the first time ever on Thanksgiving to serve free meals to anyone in need, a decision inspired by recent uncertainty around SNAP benefits.

Earlier this month, thousands of families temporarily lost access to food assistance after federal changes to SNAP benefits. Although those benefits were later restored, English had already ordered enough food to feed 1,000 people.

Somerville police warn residents after multiple recent break-ins

Police are warning residents in Somerville, Massachusetts, to stay vigilant following a string of break-ins that occurred last weekend.

The incidents occurred on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23 along Harold, Wyatt, and Dimick streets, according to police, who added that two of these incidents took place between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

A possible suspect has been described as a male on a scooter, wearing a puffy jacket, police said.

Driver arrested on Thanksgiving, two days after deadly U-Haul crash on I-95 in Maine

The driver who fled the scene after a U-Haul van crashed into a tree on Interstate 95 in central Maine, killing a passenger and sparking a search that temporarily shut the highway earlier this week, was taken into custody on Thanksgiving.

Tyler Hewitt, of Presque Isle, was arrested Thursday afternoon after Clinton police responded to a call of a suspicious person walking on Hill Road, according to Maine State Police, who said responding officers canvassed the area and located the 31-year-old after he emerged from the woods near I-95.

Police confirmed Hewitt was driving on a suspended license when he was involved in the fatal crash in Clinton on Tuesday morning that claimed the life of 38-year-old John Perkins, of Hampden.

Person flown to Boston trauma center after dirt bike crash in Carver on Thanksgiving

A person was seriously injured in a dirt bike crash in Carver, Massachusetts, and had to be flown in a medical helicopter to a Boston trauma center on Thanksgiving.

The Carver Fire Department said they worked with police and EMS find the rider, who was far away from any paved roads in a spot that was inaccessible by ambulance.

The injured person was taken from the scene by the fire department’s newest UTV, which is equipped to carry victims in a stokes basket, and then transported by Boston MedFlight.

Driver killed in Thanksgiving crash on I-95 in North Attleboro

One person is dead after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, early on Thanksgiving.

State police say troopers responded around 2:30 a.m. Thursday to the multi-vehicle crash on I-95 south at mile marker 8, where the driver of the motor vehicle was found unresponsive at the scene and died from their injuries.

“We offer our condolences to their family and loved ones,” state police said in a statement, adding that no information was immediately available about the driver’s identity.
