I was a sportstalk radio host for 16 years before I ever gave public media any attention.
I wasn’t even a listener to my local NPR station before I started working there. I knew that something called NPR existed, but I couldn’t have told you what the “N,” the “P” or the “R” stood for.
Once I tuned in, my world expanded. The stories I started hearing, along with the people I met as a journalist at KPCC, made me begin questioning the narrative I’d told myself about myself. It ignited my curiosity about the world and about other people. It gave me room to start telling new stories.
It turns out that's what the “N,” “P” and “R” are all about. On Giving Tuesday, a day of global generosity, I invite you to join me in giving back.
Public media is facing its first days without federal funding. We’re stretching every dollar as far as we can to keep bringing you the independent journalism and programming you rely on.
You and I have probably never met. But one thing I know we have in common is curiosity about the world. Whether behind the mic as a journalist or behind the wheel as a listener, our curiosity will keep us searching for the facts, for fresh perspectives and for new stories.
And your generosity now will ensure they keep coming.
P.S. When you donate, leave us a comment telling us why you support public media. We will be featuring our favorite supporter comments as part of the Giving Tuesday festivities — if you act now, that could be you!
