Last night we had the most expensive ball machine drama to date and ended up giving away TWO M3's.
This isn't the first time we've given away extra prizes due to technical error ...
An M4 in the early days, an Audi TT, a bike and a pick up truck have all been drawn twice in the past.
On the M3 or £60,000 (final draw of the night), the first drum of the ball machine selected 0 as the first winning number, but didn’t catch the ball correctly.
Watching back on the CCTV, the ball jumped in for a millisecond then jumped back out, but the computer had registered the ball land in the collection chamber so the number displayed on the screen.
You couldn’t clearly see that it was the zero ball that was picked for that millisecond in the drum.
Whilst the ball machine only picks numbers that land in the drum and registers the chip that’s inside the ball to display the number …
Without it physically being there for you all to see, the only thing we could do was allow that first winning number to be valid and then run the whole draw again.
This resulted in two M3’s being drawn last night at our expense.
The number that technically won was the first number, 00291.
However the integrity of our draws is worth more than losing a car.
Without that zero ball physically being in the drum and caught correctly for you all to see …
Without 100% proof that zero ball was the ball in that drum, the only fair thing to do was to give the M3 to that first winning number then run the whole draw again.
Sometime’s technology lets you down ...
But we hope our choice to run that draw again last night and lose a £60K prize was the correct choice and didn’t let you down.
