The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) on 10 December adopted an opinion on the AI Continent Action Plan, calling for decentralised intitiatives, investment, and guidance to ensure that cities and regions can fully participate in the Artificial Intelligence-driven transformation of industry and society.

Europe must secure medicines as part of its defence, regions and cities stress

The European Committee of the Regions (CoR) is calling on the European Union to reinforce the proposed Critical Medicines Act (CMA) to tackle rising medicine shortages and strengthen Europe’s pharmaceutical security. In an opinion led by Erika Von Kalben (DE/Greens) and adopted unanimously on 10 December, regional and local leaders call for health security to be part of EU’s new security paradigm and for a formal role for regions in implementing the new rules.

A more secure Europe hinges on good cooperation with cities and regions

In an opinion adopted on 10 December at the plenary session — drafted by Anne Rudisuhli (FR/Renew Europe), departmental councillor of Buches-du-Rhône — members of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) welcomed the ambition of the new ProtectEU strategy but called on the European Commission and national governments to involve local and regional authorities effectively in its implementation.

Action Plan for Affordable Energy: Cities and regions call for more targeted support

Local and regional leaders have welcomed that the European Commission is stepping up efforts to tackle energy poverty, strengthen energy resilience and deliver clean energy to EU citizens and businesses, but regret that the European Commission's Affordable Energy Action Plan lacks tailored measures for cities and regions and doesn't take fully into account their crucial role in the energy transition. The opinion led by the Mayor of Łódź Hanna Zdanowska (PL/EPP) was adopted by the European Committee of the Regions on 10 December.
