Google recently made changes to how educational applications are managed and accessed on the Chrome Browser and Chromebooks. Many applications are moving from the Chrome Web Store to the Google Play Store.
To ensure your student(s) can continue accessing all approved instructional tools, FCPS has updated its digital consent platform to include both the Chrome Web Store and the Google Play Store.
Please review and provide your consent for these two new options through our easy-to-use Parent Digital Consent system:
- Additional Google Services – Chrome Web Store
- Additional Google Services – Google Play Store
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting safe and effective digital learning experiences for all students.
For questions or support, please visit FCPS’ Family Technology Resources page or open a ticket with the Technical Support desk.

Want a quick way to recognize an employee or team? Share an FCPS CARES! Families, colleagues, and students are all invited to submit. The FCPS CARES is automatically sent to the recipient(s) and their supervisor, and is posted on fcps.edu. Additionally, each month one school in our region wins a staff celebration party. Show our staff that their hard work is appreciated!
Learning can look different, even within the same classroom. This is part of giving students what they need to be successful.
FCPS has introduced new parent controls in the Lightspeed to help families manage screen time on FCPS-issued devices. Through the portal, parents can control their child's access to YouTube and pause web browsing during designated after-school hours while students are off the FCPS network.
The controls are active Monday - Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (even on student holidays) and all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
Parents can register for the Lightspeed Parent Portal using the link provided in the Lightspeed Online Student Activity Report email.
For more information, please visit the Lightspeed Parent Portal page .
There’s a story behind the success of every FCPS student — a story about what’s possible with the appropriate funding for world-class teachers, rigorous academics, and future-ready learning experiences. At FCPS, student success starts with a strong budget!
FCPS is currently developing the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget, which is for the 2026-27 school year. In January, Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid will present a proposed budget to the School Board.
During this process, we’ll be sharing FCPS’ budget story with you. The different chapters will explain the impact of chronic underfunding, why strong funding benefits all of Fairfax County, what’s at stake when Bren Mar Park and other FCPS schools don’t get the support we need, and more.
We invite you to follow along and learn how you can help write our next chapter!
There are a variety of ways families can help their children continue learning and growing throughout the winter break!
- Engage in conversations in which your child is listening and speaking about different topics to increase vocabulary and building story-telling skills for writing success; this can happen in any language!
- Engage in fun activities such as board games, which support your child in patience, turn-taking, and strategic thinking.
- Encourage your child to write! This can include writing in a daily journal, helping to write (or type) letters to others, or even writing shopping lists.
- Your child can also use any of the online resources available over the winter break, such as STMath (all students), SummitK12 (some students), or Exact Path (some students).
Do the Math Together as a Family
As we head into winter break, there are easy and enjoyable ways to keep math skills growing—playing math games together! Board games and simple at-home games help children practice counting, number sense, strategy, problem-solving, and flexible thinking—all while spending quality family time together.
Why math games help
- They strengthen number sense, mental math, and logical thinking
- They encourage patience, turn-taking, and perseverance
- They make math enjoyable, helping children see themselves as confident problem solvers
Board Games That Build Math Skills (These are great if you already have them at home!)
- For younger learners: Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Hi Ho! Cherry-O, Trouble, Sorry
- For all ages: Uno, War, Dominoes, Connect 4, Jenga, Battleship
- For strategy and higher-level thinking: Blokus, Qwirkle, Yahtzee, Rummikub
No Board Games? No Problem!
Here are easy games families can play with just paper, dice, or cards—or no supplies at all:
- Dice Games
- Roll & Add: Roll two dice and add the numbers. Try to beat your last score!
- Race to 50: Take turns adding dice rolls to reach 50 exactly. Great mental math practice.
- Card Games
- War: Compare two cards—highest wins. Builds number comparison and fluency.
- Make 10: Lay out cards and look for combinations that add to 10.
- Paper & Pencil Games
- Tic-Tac-Toe variations (try 4-in-a-row on a bigger grid!)
- “Target Number”: choose a number and see how many ways you can make it using +, –, ×, or ÷.
- No-Materials Games
- Count the Sounds: Count steps, claps, or jumps; skip-count while moving.
- Math “I Spy”: “I spy something shaped like a rectangle… something in a group of 6…”
- Guess My Number: Give clues such as “greater than 20 but less than 30.”
The goal is fun, not speed or perfection. Encourage your child to explain their thinking, try new strategies, and enjoy the challenge. These ideas all show how much math is in our daily lives and will support your child’s basic computation and problem-solving skills.
We are excited for you to meet our Multiage Team Ms. Molina, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Jamil, and Ms. Begum.
