The drawing above is a New Yorker cartoon from 2015. Trump would hate it. Drawing creatures made out of snow is a wonderful way to imagine. What are they thinking? Who made them? Why? When you look at a snow creation, what does it evoke? I think if I were to draw this one again now, 10 years later, my caption might be different. There are a number of news stories today that are worth keeping an eye on but I’m not going to write about them today. They have to do with Ukraine and Israel and Trump, but they are developing stories, really. I want to keep my eye on the Epstein files, too. There was an article in the Atlantic over Christmas that is worth reading. Sarah Fitzpatrick Points out that the recent release of some files are pretty damaging to Trump. First of all, Trump has always claimed that he never flew on Epstein’s plane, dubbed the Lolita Express, but the files indicate he was on the plane quite a few times. And that he was also on the plane “during the period we would expect to charge in a Maxwell case,” a federal prosecutor in New York told colleagues. Epstein’s co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was subsequently convicted and is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in the sex-trafficking operation, including using the plane for “transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts.” Another conclusion from the files is that “Trump’s relationship with Epstein, a former friend, was of interest to federal law enforcement for years.” It must be said: Trump has not been found to have done anything wrong; but his story keeps changing. A Politico poll reports the Trump is very unpopular in Europe, even among supporters in right-wing populist parties. The data also suggests that right-wing populist supporters may admire Trump’s policies, but they don’t trust him. Gee, I wonder why. Below is another installment of my feature, Deeper Seeing, something that I’m really excited about for paid subscribers. It’s a feature I offer a couple times a week, in which I go a little more in depth on something --about creativity, cartoons, filmmaking, writing, photography, life! Seeing! Since we got a lot of snow recently, so I thought I would write about some of my snow people cartoons, like the one at the top of this newsletter. And how culture infuences my work. Have a great Monday, see you tomorrow!... Continue reading this post for free in the Substack app |
