TRAFFIC ALERT: 2025 Clarendon New Year’s Eve Road Closures

ARLINGTON, Va.The Arlington County Police Department will implement road closures and parking restrictions in Clarendon on New Years Eve to help ensure public safety and accommodate the expected increase in foot traffic related to nightlife activity.

Electronic message boards will be placed in the area to alert motorists of the upcoming closures, and drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes if traveling in the area. Rideshare pick-ups and drop-offs will be permitted along Washington Boulevard and Metro bus service will operate without interruption.

Road Closure

On Wednesday, December 31, 2025, from 10:00 p.m. until Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 3:00 a.m.:

  • Clarendon Boulevard from N. Highland Street to Washington Boulevard
  • Wilson Boulevard from N. Highland Street to Washington Boulevard

The public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area, and motorists are urged to follow law enforcement direction, be mindful of closures, and remain alert for increased pedestrian traffic. Other roads not mentioned may be closed at law enforcement discretion and in the interest of public safety.

Parking Restrictions

Street parking will be restricted on Wilson Boulevard and Clarendon Boulevard beginning at 8:00 p.m. on December 31.

Motorists should be on the lookout for temporary “No Parking” signs and illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. If your vehicle is towed, please use the online portal to find out the status of your vehicle and where it is located. The online portal is updated in real time. If you cannot locate your vehicle or need additional support using the online portal, call the County non-emergency number at 703-558-2222.

Plan a Sober Ride Home

  • Spend your New Year’s Eve holiday with friends and family, not in the back of a police cruiser. Before your countdown begins, plan a sober ride home — whether it’s by using a rideshare service, taxi, public transportation, or designated sober driver!
  • The Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s 2025 Holiday SoberRide program is offering free rides home, in partnership with Lyft, from Friday, December 19, 2025, until Thursday, January 1, 2026, nightly between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
