Marc Elias needs no introduction to Civil Discourse readers. He is the election law guru we all rely on. Marc and I talk regularly about issues involving our elections, and I asked if he would answer a double dose of questions for us, ten instead of the usual five, tonight. Not only did he graciously agree—his answers are below—he also offered to join us for a Substack Live next Thursday, January 15, at noon ET to answer additional questions you have after reading tonight’s piece. As we enter the midterm season, I think you’ll get a lot out of the ten questions I teed up for Marc and the answers he shared. As he says, “the fight for democracy is the defining battle of our generation. Within that struggle, protecting free and fair elections must be our top priority,” and the first step is arming ourselves with an understanding of what is happening and what’s at stake. Let me know what questions you have for Marc, so we can take them up next week. “Five Questions” is the one Civil Discourse column that is exclusively for paid subscribers, my way of thanking you all for your support for the newsletter. Your paid subscriptions help me devote the time and resources necessary to the newsletter. The rest of the columns that make up Civil Discourse are available to everyone—knowledge is power, and we all need as much of that as possible right now! Thank you for being here and for caring about the future of our democracy. Continue reading this post for free in the Substack app |
