Dear Travel Fan,

This week, I have the great pleasure of sharing our 52 Places to Go list for 2026 with you. This annual project involves all of us here at Times Travel, as we spend months choosing and refining our list of the destinations that command attention in the coming year. (New for 2026, you can save the places you’d most like to visit.) I hope you find it inspiring, whether it leads you to book a trip or just enjoy it from an armchair.

Last year’s list included Milan, which along with Cortina d’Ampezzo (the subject of a recent 36 Hours column) is hosting the upcoming Winter Olympics. If you love winter sports but aren’t going to make it Italy for the Games, here’s a roundup of spots in North America where you can sample or watch many of the disciplines.

Some travelers whose trips were disrupted by the Trump administration’s military action in Venezuela ended up stranded for days. We talked to some of them. And we also talked to experts about how you can protect yourself from possible future disruptions if you’re planning a trip to the Caribbean this winter.

The world of loyalty points is shifting from focusing on travel rewards to creating V.I.P. experiences for credit cardholders or member of loyalty programs, like parties with rock stars, exclusive dinners and backstage tours. We take a look.

And the first hit movie of 2026 is “Marty Supreme,” in which Timothée Chalamet stars as a brash Ping-Pong player intent on making his name. The travel writer Pico Iyer plays Mr. Chalamet’s nemesis in the film and he explains how it all happened.

Wishing you safe and happy travels,
Amy Virshup
