Efficiently Measure RS232 Baud Rate with an Oscilloscope
This issue will share a practical technique: directly measuring the baud rate of RS232 serial communication using an oscilloscope. This method allows for quick verification of communication parameter accuracy with just a standard oscilloscope, making it suitable for hardware debugging, fault diagnosis, and other scenarios. |
Connect the signal: Attach the oscilloscope probe to the RS232 pin and connect the ground wire to GND. Capture the signal waveform using the Auto function. |
Set trigger: Configure trigger conditions (e.g., data bits, baud rate) to display complete data frames stably. |
Measure bit width: Use the cursor function to accurately measure the time width of a bit (e.g., measured as 104μs). |
Calculate the baud rate: The baud rate is determined by the formula Baud rate = 1 second / bit time (e.g., 104μs corresponds to approximately 9600 baud). |
Protocol Decoding Verification: If the oscilloscope supports protocol decoding functionality, data accuracy can be further verified. |
