The latest revelations to come out about the NDIS are a combination of infuriating, heartbreaking and staggering.

Social affairs reporter Julie Cross has been reporting on the broken NDIS system for four years. Every week she has new exclusives that lay bare the huge sums of taxpayer money being wasted and rorted. She is also very importantly giving a voice to some of the most vulnerable people in the country who would otherwise be ignored.

In Julie’s latest investigation, she exclusively reveals shocking claims from whistle-blowers about disabled people with million-dollar NDIS packages being held hostage in homes around Australia. Yes, you read that right, being held hostage. There are fears one of the men is being left to rot in his bed because his advocate isn’t allowed to visit him. It’s incredibly sad and you’ll be left shaking your head as to how this is still happening.

In another shocking example of just how bad it is, Tiffany Poulton, who has cerebral palsy, bravely speaks to Julie about how she was promised the NDIS home of her dreams but now lives in a deadly fire trap. She's also forced to use wet wipes to clean her hands after going to the toilet. Read the full report and see the video here.

Meanwhile we have resumed our popular Shopping Swaps series after a short break to make room for our 10-day New Year health guide! Last year we began publishing stories every Monday focused on helping us make healthier and smarter choices in our grocery baskets or trolleys. In case you missed it, this one on yoghurts was one of our section's most read stories in the last six months.

This week Taylor Penny has spoken to dietitians and ranked breakfast cereals in the supermarket from best to worst. Although it’s not surprising that Froot Loops and Coco Pops came in last, you might be taken aback about how low Cornflakes and Nutri-Grain fared. If there's a product you want us to look into for the series please get in touch at health@news.com.au.

Have a great week.
