I did the above drawing this morning. I’ve been thinking about writing this sentiment in the body of my post, but then thought drawing it would be better. Trump thinks he’s primo bully in high school. Today, he rescinded his invitation for Prime Minister Carney of Canada to join his “Board of Peace,” an organization that he had founded to oversee a peace deal between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, but that he has now tried to broaden into an institution to rival the United Nations. Around 25 nations have joined, among them Israel, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Kosovo, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, and Hungary. To replace the UN with some money motivated, Trump-run fake board, based on commerce and not based on humanitarian values, is deeply offensive to me. Carney’s remarks were highly critical He urged leaders of smaller nations to band together to resist “Trump’s America First doctrine and his efforts to dismantle the post-World War II international order.” Carney at first was going to accept the invite, but then learned that Trump would charge members more than $1 billion in exchange for a permanent seat in the organization, and that other Western leaders such as Macron, had declined to join. From the NY Times: Carney did not once mention Trump or the United States, and described in stark, dark terms what he called a “rupture” from the U.S.-led global order. He called on middle powers — nations like Canada that are not strong enough to rival the United States or China on their own — to unite, lest they be at the mercy of greater powers, warning that “if we’re not at the table, we’re on the menu.” This kind of resistance is so important. I love Canadanians. If you are starting to get snow, I hope you can enjoy it and are able to stay at home. If you are in the company of little kids or dogs, even better— they can help increase the feeling of awe at the magic of snow. We have cats….I don’t know what they think of snow! Have a good Friday, see you tomorrow. Thanks for being here! Below are a few personal reflections about the drawing, and activism, for paid subscribers...
