In Minneapolis just now, at least ten shots were fired in a struggle between ICE agents and a 37 year-old man. The man is dead, and multiple bystanders took video of the shooting. Here they are.
Mayor Jacob Frey accused the Trump administration of terrorizing his city and asked,
“How many more residents, how many more Americans, need to die or get badly hurt for this operation to end?”
Officials from the Department of Homeland Security said that the man who was shot had a gun, and that the officers feared for their life. It appears that the shots came from more than one ICE agent. It is believed that the man was an American citizen and had a firearm permit which is legal in Minnesota.
The shooting came a day after thousands of people protested against Trump’s immigration crackdown, and hundreds of businesses shut down in solidarity. This is the third ICE shooting in the city.
Governor Tim Waltz spoke out against today’s incident, calling for ICE to leave, and a Minnesota Republican Senator accused him of propaganda war. It’s outrageous. Waltz is to speak later today. Minnesota law enforcement officials are trying to secure the area to preserve evidence for investigation.
Meanwhile protesters continue to gather wearing gas masks and goggles, they are incredibly brave. It’s -6 degrees below zero. ICE has left the area, local police have stepped in, which might calm things down for the time being.
