Good afternoon. It's Monday, Jan. 26.

In today's newsletter:

  • The developer of the giant Alaska LNG project said it has completed several preliminary agreements to advance the project, with pipeline manufacturers and builders, as well as gas suppliers and buyers.

  • A massive oil rig that toppled over near the North Slope village of Nuiqsut on Friday remained too unstable for responders to get close as of this morning, according to state officials.

  • Alaska's ties with Greenland go back centuries. President Donald Trump's comments about annexing the island are provoking particularly intense feelings of anxiety and concern among some of Alaska's Indigenous communities.

There's a good amount of snow in the forecast for the Anchorage area today and tomorrow. It's the perfect excuse to curl up indoors with a good book. But what to read on a snow day? The Washington Post's Book World editors have you covered.

Anchorage weather

It's snowing today with a high around 20 degrees. A winter weather advisory in effect through Tuesday evening for the Anchorage area calls for 4-8 inches of additional snow accumulation. Daytime highs will range from the mid-teens to the mid-20s over the next few days.

Here's what else is making headlines in Alaska today.
