There’s something about the term “bucket list” that doesn’t quite sit right with me. Probably because it derives from the saying “kick the bucket,” and I’m not a fan of associating what should be life’s most extraordinary moments with endings. I prefer something more optimistic – maybe “life list” or “now or never.”
Two years ago, I went on one of those “now or never” trips: the ultimate train tour of Italy. Well, not all of Italy, but our group covered a whole lot of ground in just one week. I strolled through the Villa Borghese gardens in Rome, toured an ancient underground city in Perugia, shopped for leather and saw world-famous art in Florence, and watched Murano glass sculptors at work in Venice.
I had no way of knowing that our very own trip planning service, Lonely Planet Journeys, would eventually craft an almost identical 11-day itinerary in Italy that anyone can book (I recommend adding Perugia, and luckily, tweaks are always possible).
The most daunting part of planning a dream trip (no pressure) is figuring out where to start. Let our local experts take the stress out of planning so you can focus on making life list-worthy memories.
