Cubbie News
Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,
We hope this message finds each of you safe and warm, perhaps with a mug of cocoa in hand and some snowy memories made! While our hallways have been a bit too quiet, we know our Cubbies have been making the most of this winter wonderland and we can’t wait to hear about their adventures.
We want our students to truly enjoy these unexpected breaks; whether it’s building the perfect snowman, reading a favorite book by the window, or just catching up on some extra rest. Our teachers have also sent out ideas for activities and you can visit our FCPS winter resources.
With the end of the second quarter quickly approaching, we know the "snow day shuffle" can be challenging. We are working on adjusting plans and rescheduling midyear assessments. When we head back to the building, please remember to send your Cubbies in layers. Recess can be chilly, and those coats, hats, and gloves are important in keeping our students warm while they play.
School is closed for students on both Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30. Our school staff will be busy participating in professional learning, working on 2nd quarter progress reports, and getting our classrooms ready to welcome our Cubbies back.
We are excited to kick off our third quarter with Den meetings on February 5 and February 6 - please see more information below.
We look forward to welcoming our Cubbies back into the building on Monday, we have missed them!
Warmly,
Melissa Miller, Principal
Nausheen Haider, Assistant Principal
Calendar Reminders: No School for Students/Quarter Ends
Schools are closed for students on Thursday, January 29, for a staff development day, and Friday, January 30, for a teacher workday.
End-of-Quarter
Due to the recent loss of instructional days, the final day of the second quarter has been moved to Tuesday, February 3.
Teachers may continue second-quarter assessments through February 3 and will share any specific changes with students and families through Schoology. Students in semester courses will continue attending first-semester classes through February 3. Dr. Reid’s letter to the community about the end-of-quarter adjustments contains more details.
SIS ParentVUE will be unavailable for students and parents during end-of-quarter updates from Tuesday, February 3, at 4 p.m. until Monday, February 9, at 6 a.m. (These dates have been updated with the later end of quarter date.)

Positivity Project
This week, our school is focusing on the character strength of Prudence. Prudence means you plan for the future and achieve your goals by making careful everyday choices.
Prudence is about doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons. It's a way of thinking ahead, setting goals, making plans, and having the discipline to follow through. It’s more about using your head than your heart.
Prudence helps with managing yourself effectively. Whether aiming for a sports record, getting good grades, or saving for something special, you need to plan ahead and stay focused. Even with a plan, you must resist temptations that might distract you. Prudence gives you the wisdom to use the right strengths at the right time to achieve your goals.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
