Kings Park Families,

We hope everyone in the Kings Park community has been safe and warm this week as schools closed due to winter weather. A sincere thank you to our custodial team for their incredible work clearing roads and sidewalks in preparation for the safe return of students and staff. Their commitment to our school community makes a difference every day, and we are truly grateful for all they do.

Kings Park Custodians

Please note an important Kings Park calendar change - the STEAM/Strategies Lab and Library Open House originally scheduled for next week have been postponed. See below for additional information.

Today and tomorrow remain student holidays for previously scheduled professional development and teacher worktime. These days are essential to ensure all staff are well prepared to support student learning entering the second half of the school year.

A friendly reminder that all student devices and chargers brought home last Friday must be returned on our next school day. Thanks for your help making sure students have access to these important instructional tools during the school day.

Kings Park Admin Team

Sincerely,

Mrs. Dotty Lin, Mrs. Jenn Burke and Mrs. Anna Kaplan

POSTPONED: STEAM/Strategies Lab and Library Open House

Red Postponed Text

Recognizing the unexpected impact this week’s weather has had on many families’ schedules, we are postponing the STEAM/Strategies Lab and Library Open Houses that were originally scheduled for next week. Mother Nature had a say, as well, with conditions on neighborhood streets and sidewalks making school access difficult for families at this time.

We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to reschedule, and we look forward to welcoming families at a later date. Updated dates will be shared via News You Choose.

January 29th Celebration: K-3

KP's 2025-2026 Attendance Goal: 7% chronic absenteeism or less

Percentage of students NOT currently chronically absent 95.3%
Percentage of students currently chronically absent (missed 10% or more of the school days so far this year) 4.7%

End-Of-Quarter Adjustments

Due to the loss of instructional days this week, end-of-quarter dates have been adjusted as follows:

  • The final day of the second quarter will now be Tuesday, February 3rd.
  • Report cards will be sent home with students on Tuesday, Feburary 10th.
  • The divisionwide staff development day on Thursday, January 29th, and Friday, January 30th, will remain as scheduled. Students will not have classes on these days.

Kindergarten Registration: It’s as Easy as 1-2-3…

There’s an easy five-step process for parents wanting to register their child for kindergarten:

  1. Determine eligibility.
  2. Identify your local school.
  3. Gather documents.
  4. Fill out forms.
  5. Schedule an appointment.

After the appointment at the school (the student and one caregiver must be present), the student will be ready for orientation or any other introductory events each school may host. Read more about the registration process. For more information, please call Kings Park at 703-426-7000.
